CHOISY (Male mid-20s) Born in Paris to Egyptian parents, Choisy is full of burning ambition to make good in this city. He is an eternal optimist, an energetic entrepreneur, ever-resourceful and hard working. Choisy has always thought of himself as French through and through… which has blinded him to the racism that is skewing the world against him. When he finally sees the light, he decides to fight back in the most perverse way.
DE LORDE (Male mid-20s) Young, ambitious, vain, convinced of his own genius, stubborn, unwilling to compromise, De Lorde is a classic wannabe writer. Having no money, he is forced to adopt a position of ‘radical outsider’, but as soon as the mainstream beckons, he will be off. There is a boyish charm to his naivety.
MADAME DOUSKA (Female 30s) Raised in Russian aristocracy, the whole family fled to Paris when she was a teenager to avoid the Revolutionary bloodbath. Cynical, charming, a survivor who can kiss you and stab you in the back at the same time. There is always an angle for Madame Douska.
BERENICE (Female mid-20s) Highly educated, born into a wealthy Paris family. She is the voice of privilege. Has strong opinions and is not afraid to express them with articulate savagery. An entitled and well-connected young woman.
MICHEL (Male 40s) Affable, easygoing, more worldly than he lets on, huge loyalty to Choisy and respect for what he is trying to do. Michel is the right-hand man we all wish we had.
PAULA MAXA (Female, mid-20s) The make-up artist who has always longed to be an actress. When she finally gets her break, her loyalty to Choisy is cemented. Unshockable, pragmatic, a woman who knows what titillates and what turns stomachs.
AUGUST (Male, late-20s) An actor who longs to break into Mainstream theatre, but who is stuck with Choisy. Quick to speak up, but quick to back down.
SOFI (Female mid-20s) A passionate actor who is at the end of her tether. Time and again she has made allowances for Choisy, now she has snapped.
JEROME (Male late-20s) An actor like August, but more of a quiet troublemaker. He will stir up discontent but always makes sure that someone else gets the blame.
BABA (Male late-50s) Egyptian. Moved to Paris 30 years ago. A very kind and loving man. Devoted to his son and the loyal customers who frequent his grocery store in the Paris suburbs.
